Statement on Marriage and Sexuality

We believe that God has ordained marriage and defined it as the covenant relationship between a man and a woman, and therefore Brighton Church of the Nazarene will only recognize marriages between one biological man and one biological woman.

Matthew 19:4-6 4 "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' 5 and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? 6 So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

This Statement on Marriage and Sexuality specifically gives Brighton Church of the Nazarene the right and authority to restrict the use of Church facilities and property to uses consistent with the Bible, with its Statement of Faith and Statement on Marriage and Sexuality, as solely determined by Brighton Church of the Nazarene.

Church Facility Usage Policy Provision

Brighton Church of the Nazarene’s property and facilities may be used only for purposes consistent with the Church’s doctrinal beliefs as reflected in the Bible and the Church’s Statement of Faith, including its Statement on Marriage and Sexuality. Property and facility use will not be permitted to persons or groups holding, advancing, or advocating beliefs or practices that conflict with Brighton Church of the Nazarene’s religious teachings as reflected in the Bible and the Church’s Statement of Faith, including its Statement on Marriage and Sexuality. Brighton Church of the Nazarene’s Church Board shall be the final decision-making authority regarding whether any proposed facility/property use is in conformity to the Church’s doctrinal beliefs.

Church Marriage Policy Provision

Because God has ordained marriage and defined it as the covenant relationship between a man and a woman, Brighton Church of the Nazarene will only recognize marriages between one biological man and one biological woman.

Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
