Day Two - We woke up this morning VERY early and got on a bus to head to Ewaso Nigro for church. Even with lack of sleep and jetlag we all were wide awake to experience God's glory in every inch of the 3 hour drive! As the bus pulled into the village of Ewaso several children saw us from a ways off and ran beside the bus all the way to the church...waving and smiling ear to ear! The service was amazing with incredible worship and Spirit filled preaching and by the end every one of us was glad we came! :) We spent the afternoon laughing, talking and playing games and then after dinner we gathered for our first devotional as a team! Ken (our fearless leader) asked us all to share the thing that stood out to us the MOST today. As we went around the table several of the team, including Ryan-Iver Klan, who said it best when he shared that the moment we got off the bus at the church and were surrounded by the church people and all the children he could feel the warmth and love that they had for us...and we haven't even done anything yet! The moment that I personally was just destroyed by today(in a good way :) was at the very end of the night after we had all shared our experiences for the day our Kenyan friend Japho took a moment to thank US and to compliment US on all that we've done. (which by the way at this point is just show up) He said that for Kenyans our presence ALONE is powerful! That the fact that we take time out of our lives, take money out of our bank accounts and JUST COME is ENOUGH! That for many of these Village children their lives will be forever marked by the moment that an american Christian came to their village, and just held their hand. They will always remember the moment Melissa Nelson let them just touch her beautiful, long blonde hair, or the moment that big ole' Darrin Maddin remembered their name and that he gave them a hat last year. These are the moments that make this trip so important...these are the moment that I think God is looking down and sees that we are truly being His hands and feet! |
